Top 5 Slack Apps for Software Developers in 2025

As a software developer, choosing the right Slack apps can significantly improve your workflow, productivity, and team collaboration. Here’s a curated list of must-have Slack integrations that have proven invaluable in my development work during the last years.

prbot

prbot github slack integration

prbot is a GitHub Slack integration that focuses on making your team merge faster via effective, not spammy, Pull Request notifications.

It automatically shares a pull request to its corresponding Slack channel once it is created, then keeps its status, and status review, synced as emojis. It comes with additional features around it like:

  • multiple channel support
  • customizable message format
  • other advanced settings

This one started as a Hackathon project and it ended up as a product many other engineers use every day.

incident.io

incident.io

When things are on fire, it’s challenging to handle things in an organized way. incident.io has a very useful Slack app that helps with this, being one of their main three products.

Once an incident is created, a new Slack channel is created, and posted in #incidents. There you will centralize conversation, assign an incident leader, create updates, etc. It is not only helpful during the incident, but also afterwards for the postmortem.

Google Calendar

Being able to quickly see your today’s, or tomorrow’s meetings within Slack is very convenient.

This is what the Google Calendar integration offers, but what has more effect on me is the notifications. They help me to context switch properly and avoid being late as much as possible, something important for someone with ADHD.

Spill

spill

There are many things that might affect you mentally, which will eventually affect your work. Spill is a company that focuses on mental health support for employees. With its Slack integration you will be able to easily schedule a 1 to 1 therapy sessions.

Even though the rest will happen outside of Slack, I find it very convenient to have it integrated in Slack. It makes it way more accessible.

Giphy

This one is well known, and widely used, but it is worth mentioning. Even though I’m an emoji guy, being able to get the right gif for the right moment is important.
